Interface

The Block Editor keeps your canvas front and center. The toolbar sits at the top. A floating panel on the right gives you access to actions, shapes, and fills, all organized by tab so the tools you need are one tap away.

Toolbar

The toolbar runs along the top of the screen. It contains:

  • Back — Return to Block Studio
  • Undo / Redo — Step backward or forward through your edit history

Canvas

The canvas is the main editing area. Your block renders in real time using Metal, so colors and fabrics appear exactly as they will in your finished design. Rulers run along the top and left edges for precise positioning. Pinch to zoom, two-finger drag to pan. See Gestures for the full list.

Right panel

A floating panel sits on the right side of the canvas. In landscape, the panel is always visible. In portrait orientation (or Split View/Slide Over), the canvas takes the full width and the panel slides in as an overlay when you tap the toggle strip along the right edge.

Three segment tabs across the top let you switch between the panel's sections:

Actions tab

The Actions tab is your hub for output and block settings:

  • Create Quilt — Start a new quilt layout using this block
  • Materials Estimate — Generate a PDF materials report
  • Cutting Diagram — Generate a PDF cutting layout
  • Piecing Templates — Generate printable PDF piecing templates
  • Coloring Page — Generate a PDF outline of your block for hand coloring
  • Exploded View — Toggle a view that separates patches so you can see each layer individually
  • Block Size — Set the finished size of your block in inches using the size slider

Shapes tab

Browse and add shapes to your block. The shape library includes built-in quilting shapes and any custom shapes you've created. Tap a shape to add it as a new patch on the canvas.

Fills tab

Assign colors and fabrics to the selected patch. The Fills tab includes a color picker, fabric swatches from your library, and your active palette for quick access.

Selection

Tap a patch on the canvas to select it. The selected patch gets a highlight border and selection handles. With a patch selected, the Fills tab applies to that specific patch.

Tap empty canvas space to deselect.
