Sashing & Borders

You already know these elements from traditional quilting. Sashing separates your blocks, borders frame the quilt, cornerstones accent the intersections, and binding finishes the edge. BloqLoft handles them the same way, with precise geometry and fabric assignments for each.

Sashing

Sashing is the strip of fabric between blocks. It gives each block visual breathing room and defines the grid structure. To enable sashing, open the editor panel and set its width.

To assign a fill, tap a sashing strip on the canvas to select it, then choose a color or fabric from the fills panel. You can color all sashing uniformly or select individual strips for different fills.

Cornerstones

Cornerstones are the small squares where sashing strips meet. They're a traditional detail that adds a finished look to the grid. When sashing is enabled, cornerstones appear automatically at every intersection.

Tap a cornerstone to select it and assign its own fill. A contrasting color or accent fabric works well here.

Borders

Borders wrap around the entire quilt layout. You can add one or more border layers, each with its own width and fill. Borders render outside the block grid and are included in yardage calculations.

Binding

Binding is the narrow strip that finishes the very edge of the quilt. In BloqLoft, binding is represented as a thin outer border with its own fabric assignment. It's included in your yardage report so you know exactly how much binding fabric to buy.

Tip: Try your sashing in a neutral, like a cream or low-volume print, and your cornerstones in an accent color from your blocks. This classic combination makes blocks pop without competing for attention.
