Auto-Fill

Auto-fill takes your active palette and distributes its colors across every patch in a block. It's the fastest way to audition a color story with your design.

How it works

With a palette active, trigger auto-fill from the Fills tab. BloqLoft analyzes each patch's structural role in the block (background, feature, accent, border) and assigns colors accordingly. Large background patches get your dominant colors. Smaller feature patches get contrasting accents. The result looks intentional, not random.

This analysis uses perceptual color math to ensure that the assigned colors have appropriate contrast and visual weight for each patch's role. A large background patch won't end up with a bright accent color, and a small feature patch won't disappear into the background.

Working with colorways

Auto-fill uses the currently active colorway. If you've shifted the hue with the colorway strip, auto-fill works with those shifted colors. This means you can preview how the same palette distributes across different hue variations of your block.

Fine-tuning after auto-fill

Auto-fill gives you a starting point, not a final answer. After it runs, tap any patch to swap its fill for a different palette color, a fabric, or any color you choose. Think of it as a first draft you refine by hand.

Tip: Try auto-fill with different palettes to quickly compare how your block reads in different color stories. It's much faster than assigning fills manually for each experiment.
