Adding Blocks
Building a quilt layout starts with placing blocks in the grid. Fill every cell with the same block, alternate between two, or mix and match freely.
Placing a block
To place a block, open the Pattern Library panel and drag a block onto any cell in the quilt grid. The block renders immediately with its colors and fabrics. You can also tap a cell to select it, then tap a block in the library to assign it.
Filling the grid
You don't have to fill cells one at a time. After selecting a block, you can:
- Fill all — Place the selected block in every empty cell
- Alternate — Assign two blocks and BloqLoft arranges them in a checkerboard pattern across the grid
Alternating blocks is one of the most common quilt layouts. A star block alternating with a plain square, for example. BloqLoft handles the pattern automatically.
Swapping and clearing
To swap a block, tap the filled cell to select it, then tap a different block in the library. To clear a cell, long-press it and choose Remove Block from the context menu.
Block rotation
Some layouts call for blocks at different orientations. Rotating every other block by 90° or 180° can create movement and secondary patterns across the quilt.
To rotate a placed block, use the orbit gesture: drag outside the block's bounds and the block rotates within its cell. This is the same gesture used to rotate shapes in the Block Editor.
