Shapes

Shapes are the building blocks of patches. BloqLoft ships with a library of common quilting shapes and lets you create custom ones when you need something the library doesn't cover.

Built-in shapes

The Shapes tab includes the shapes quilters use most: squares, half-square triangles, quarter-square triangles, diamonds, rectangles, flying geese, and more. Each shape is precise geometry, not an approximation, so your templates will be accurate down to the seam.

Adding a shape

To add a shape, open the Shapes tab in the right panel and tap the shape you want. It appears as a new patch on the canvas at its default size, centered in the block. From there you can resize, rotate, and position it.

Transforming shapes

With a patch selected, you can adjust its shape directly on the canvas:

  • Move — Drag the patch to reposition it within the block.
  • Resize — Drag the selection handles to scale the shape. Shapes snap to the grid to help you align with other patches.
  • Rotate — To rotate a shape, use the orbit gesture: drag outside the patch's bounds and the shape rotates around its center. Rotation snaps to common angles (45°, 90°) to keep things aligned.

Custom shapes

If the built-in library doesn't have what you need, you can create custom shapes. Custom shapes appear in the Shapes tab alongside the built-ins and can be reused across any block.

Every shape is manufacturable. Whether built-in or custom, BloqLoft generates accurate piecing templates with seam allowance for every shape in your design.
