Standard Grid
The standard grid is a straight set: blocks in rows and columns, edges aligned, everything square. If you've made a sampler quilt or a simple nine-patch layout, you've sewn this grid.
How it works
Blocks are placed in a rectangular grid defined by a row count and column count. Every block occupies the same size cell. The grid can be square (4x4) or rectangular (4x6, 3x5, etc.).
Sashing strips run between rows and columns, with cornerstones at every intersection. Borders wrap the outside. The result is a rectangular quilt top with clean, straight edges.
When to use it
The standard grid works for nearly any design. It's the default for good reason:
- Simple to plan and sew
- Every block is fully visible with no clipping
- Sashing widths are consistent throughout
- A good choice when each block should read individually
Grid settings
To adjust the standard grid, open the grid settings panel:
- Rows and columns — How many blocks across and down
- Sashing width — The gap between blocks (set to zero for blocks edge-to-edge)
- Border widths — One or more border layers around the grid
