Grids
If you've ever decided whether to set your blocks straight or on-point, you already understand grids. In BloqLoft, the grid defines how your blocks are arranged: their orientation, spacing, and the overall structure of your quilt top.
What a grid does
Think of the grid as your quilt setting. It controls:
- Block orientation — Whether blocks sit flat, rotated, or arranged in a non-rectangular tessellation
- Edge treatment — What fills the edges when blocks are rotated, such as setting triangles
- Sashing geometry — How sashing strips and cornerstones relate to the block arrangement
- Yardage impact — Different settings produce different piece counts and fabric requirements
Six grid types
BloqLoft offers six grid types, each producing a distinct layout:
- Standard Grid — Blocks in straight rows and columns. The most common quilt setting.
- On-Point Grid — Blocks rotated 45 degrees in a diamond arrangement. Setting triangles fill the edges.
- Clipped On-Point — On-point rotation with edges trimmed to a clean rectangle. No setting triangles.
- Hexagonal Grid — Blocks in a honeycomb tessellation. Each block has six neighbors.
- Tumbler Grid — Trapezoid cells that alternate upright and inverted, creating rhythmic movement.
- Baby Blocks Grid — Three diamonds per cell, forming the classic 3D tumbling blocks illusion.
