Export Formats

Each export type serves a specific purpose in your quilting workflow. Here's what each one contains and when to use it.

Materials Estimate (PDF)

A shopping list for a single block. It lists every fabric used, the number of pieces cut from each, and the total yardage required. Bring this to the quilt shop when you're buying fabric for a specific block design.

Cutting Diagram (PDF)

Shows how pieces pack onto standard bolt width (44 inches). This is the layout you'd follow on your cutting mat: which pieces go where on the fabric to minimize waste. BloqLoft simulates actual bolt packing, not just bounding rectangles.

Piecing Templates (PDF)

Actual-size templates for every piece in your block. Each template includes:

  • The finished piece shape (sewing line)
  • Seam allowance added around all edges (using your setting from Preferences)
  • Grain line indicators
  • Piece labels for identification during assembly

Templates support three piecing methods: rotary cutting (standard templates), foundation paper piecing (FPP), and English paper piecing (EPP). The seam allowance for paper piecing uses its own setting, independent of the standard seam allowance.

A verification box is included on each page so you can confirm your printer hasn't scaled the output. Measure the box with a ruler before cutting fabric.

Coloring Page (PDF)

A line-art version of your block or quilt with all geometry intact but fills removed. Useful for:

  • Planning color placement by hand before committing in the app
  • Quilting groups, classes, or retreats where everyone colors the same design
  • Sharing a design outline without revealing your fabric choices

For quilts, the coloring page tiles across multiple printed pages with crop marks for assembly when the layout is larger than a single sheet.

Yardage Report (PDF)

A complete fabric requirements summary for the entire quilt. Calculated from exact piece geometry (not bounding rectangles), it includes piece counts and total yardage for every fabric used in blocks, sashing, borders, and binding. Backing fabric is not included, as it depends on your quilting method.

Quilt Image (PNG)

A high-resolution image of the full quilt layout rendered with actual colors and fabric textures. Use it for sharing your design on social media, printing a reference photo, or showing your quilt shop what you're planning.
